The event was held at the The Mirage in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on Friday, May 3, 2002. It was a preliminary qualifying tournament for the K-1 World Grand Prix 2002 and involved ten fighters (two being reservists) based in North America, with all bouts being fought under K-1 Rules (100 kg/156-220 lbs). The ten tournament fighters were mainly invitees but three, Giuseppe DeNatale, Kurt Hasley and reservist Carter Williams, had qualifed via the K-1 World Grand Prix 2002 Preliminary North America. As well as competition bouts there were also a number of 'Super Fights' and 'Opening Fights' fought under Freestyle, Muay Thai and Kickboxing Rules. In total there were twenty-two fighters at the event, representing two countries. The tournament winner was Michael McDonald who defeated Rick Roufus in the final via extra round technical knockout. As a result of his victory, Michael McDonald would qualify for the K-1 World Grand Prix 2002 in Las Vegas.
